Our snow cave is in the slope behind the packs and snowshoes near the center of the picture. The cave slept two of us with room to spare, but we never struck dirt or even bushes while digging it. Mount Baker's summit is 7.4 miles (11.9 km)away and 5,600 feet (1700m) above us.
This area holds the world record for total snowfall over a year: 1,140 inches (95 feet / 29 meters), between July 1, 1998 and June 30, 1999.

The area looks fairly healthy in the black-and-white satellite photos at mapper.acme.com. I don't know how you find the age of the photos, though.
