Yes, we are fortunate to have these interesting birds in Edmonton. They can be seen in lakes in the Edmonton area, including Elk Island Park and Saunders Lake in Leduc.

I I would question the location of this picture--It is tagged as being on the south west corner of Boag Lake just east of Sherwood Park, on the north side of Wye Road. It looks to me like it was taken in Hermitage Park in Edmonton, just east of Victoria Trail and north of the Yellowhead Highway (AB#16) or 53 34 54.54N and 113 22 23.98W

This is not a boathouse. It is a high-end restaurant called the Hooded Merganser, with the Penticton Lakeside Hotel on the left. There are floats for boats beside the restaurant. But no boathouse!

The valley is where the Sumallo and Skagit rivers meet to continue their journey to empty into Ross Lake. You can access them at Sumallo Grove which is a park day use area. The location of the picture was taken from Skagit Bluffs looking to the west
