Kuva on Pispalasta. Pyynikki on jäänyt kuvasta vasemmalle.

Hieno kuva Mausoleumista

Caption says: From this location men of Ylöjärvi left to defend Finnish indepence 13.10.1939

The sign says: "History of Pispalas logging tracks.

Amendment from 1857 allowed building of steam lumber mills and another one from 1861 made lumber milling a free enterprise without logging

restrictions. Attention shifted to the wooden riches beyond lake näsijärvi. However Pispala Ridge stood in the way of logging. To go over a

"red logging track" (painted with red clay) was first build at about the same place where Pispala church now resides, from here about 200m

due west, where it went over Pispala highway. Rosenlew believed he could keep competition away by only transporting his own logs. Reposaari lumber mill got a permission to build it's own logging track which was called the "grey logging track" (untreated lumber grayed).

Grey logging track was finished 1873. It was from the start steam powered. Logging track was at this very spot and went under Pispala

highway and the power house for it was on the other side. Steam engine pulled logs from lake näsijärvi with chains. Down hill to pyhäjärvi was evened out by landwork and lower down the logging

track was raised with wooden support structures so that the angle of the slide towards lake Pyhäjärvi remained even. The track had wooden

edges and wheels so logs would decent with their own weight to lake Pyhäjärvi Not untill 1930 was the logging tunnel completed (from here about 500m due west) and both logging tracks were dismantled as unnecesssary by

mid 1930's. Logging tracks gave Pispala their own image for 70 years. The rumbling sound of the logs was always a sign of spring along with

the large log piles floating in lake Pyhäjärvi and Näsijärvi."

Inscription reads: "On this Pispala Ridge the red guard in Tampere last stood with weapons in hand defending their cause in 1918."
