On 12 May 2006, the Weltenburger Enge was honoured as a National geotope and received awards from the Federal Ministry for Education and Research and the right to use the logo Planet Earth - World of Earth Science. For the competition The most important Geotope Germany of the Akademie der Geowissenschaften zu Hannover were reported over 180 Geotope from all over Germany. 77 of which ultimately were awarded, and are now National Geotope (international designation: national geosite). (Geotop 273R005 Donaudurchbruch Weltenburg).
Constant dripping wears away the stone - a underground waterway in the malming karst.
The lime and dolomite of the southern Frankenalb are completly karsted and because of watery cavities raised aisles and caves. In those very big amounts of water can be accumulate.
At some places were built tales in the karstic ground. At these places karstic springs can come to light. There are some in the Altmühltal.
The Blautopfquelle has wonderful clear Water in blue colour.
Dort wo der Limes im Taunus die alte Hühnerstraße kreuzt - heute die B 417 von Wiesbaden nach Limburg - steht die Rekonstruktion eines steinernen Wachtturms, etwa 300 m nördlich des Kastells Zugmantel. Hier befand sich in römischer Zeit ein wichtiger Grenzübergang ins freie Germanien, der von Kastell und Turm mit überwacht wurde.
Stadtmuseum Killingerhaus in Idstein:
1984 wurde nach grundlegender Sanierung das nach seinem Erbauer benannte Killingerhaus wieder eröffnet. In den unteren Räumen befindet sich seitdem das Fremdenverkehrsamt der Stadt Idstein.
