I played 'Plesha' in Band of Brothers, the machine gunner who opened fire on the German gun position in Ep2 which will explain the first pics. I live in Liphook, Hampshire in Southern England and love history and travel, which will explain the others.

Callum, sorry for the late reply, I really don't look at Panoramio now. Yes, by all means, if you'd like to use the photos, do go right ahead. Glad you like them...

Nick

Hi Nickle, Sorry for the late reply took a mini break from the research for the school hols. Yes Fred died from an illness whilst being a POW. He served upon E7 from June 1915. If you have a copy of any crew picturs I would be most grateful. I have a copy of the crew list from when the chaps were captured if interested or you haven't already got that is consisting of 27 names. Interestingly there appear to by 2 versions of what happened that day most (the version I believe to be true) state that the crew scuttled the sub to ensure the enemy couldn't use it. the other was that whilst trapped in nets the germans sank the 'lamb duck'. I must get to the submarine i still haven't been and I haven't really got any excuse as I live on the outskirts of Pompey!!

Hey there Nick, Long time no speak. You're a lucky man to be heading to Poland in August exploring. Unfortunately our trip this year didn't happen due to my friend losing his job so we have postponed until next April so i don't have any advice to give. i did however research a few other sites to visit whilst we were there inc the Wolfshanze in northern Poland which looks worth a visit. Another place we thought to include was Oskar Shindlers factory. I have long and lat coords for them if you are using a satnav.

Chris.

Thanks for sharing these pics. The company I worked for had just completed and moved into our new HQ building which, at the time, was right on the perimeter of the airfield. Funny how one got used to the sound of explosions and machine gun fire at the office ;-)

Most surreal moment came one afternoon when on the phone with a customer: "Sorry, but what appears to be a German WWII tank destroyer is going past".

É uma visão espetacular da Igreja, parabéns pelo precioso registro. F1 Saudações e tenha uma excelente semana, de Dourados - Mato Grosso do Sul - Brasil

This crew were from a Heinkel 111 of Kampfgeschwader 55 shot down by the Hawker Hurricane of George Goodman, No1 Squadron, RAF Westhampnett on August 16th, 1940. One of the aircraft's wings came off and it was seen to come down like a sycamore seed. It hit the ground in a field on Upper Frithfold Farm, Northchapel, Surrey, and with a full bomb load, exploded. It is most likely the reason that the remaining two crewmen, Unteroffizer Erich Schmidtke and Feldwebel Walter Magerhans, are missing. Originally buried in Ebernoe Church yard, they were disinterred in 1964 for Cannock Chase. The crater made by their aircraft exploding remains to this day. On 14th June 1941, Pilot Officer Goodman was shot down and killed by flak over Gazala, Libya
