THIS CHURCH WAS BURNED TO THE GROUND OCT 2015 AS AN INTENTIONAL CONTROLLED BURN TO DESTROY IT. THE CONGREGATION VOTED TO DISBAND AND COULD FIND NO ONE TO PRESERVE OR REPURPOSE THE CENTURY-PLUS OLD STRUCTURE. THE CONGREGATION DIDNOT WANT IT TO SLOWLY DECAY AND BECOME AN EYESORE AND SAFETY HAZARD.
I have a small story, "The House by the side of the road" that my Great Aunt, Selma Folstad wrote about Melvin. It was about a big red house with green trim that belonged to the Northern Pacific Railroad. My Great Grandfather, Christ Folstad was a foreman for the NPR for 42 years after migrating from Norway in the late 1800's. The family lived in this house and they had up to 30 railroad workers staying with them. Selma said that at there were also 12 families in the village with a store and post office.

There is a current struggle to keep this old church from being torn down.
