This is gorgeous and I would love to purchase the hi-res version from you so I can make it into a canvas for my mom for Christmas. Can you please contact me at rmpetro@gmail.com? THANK YOU!
That was designed by my dad who was a draftsman at Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel Company.
For years at the base of water tower there was a sign, coming soon, Acme Market, but of course that never happened
Yes, my family would go out there once or twice in the summer with cousins and aunts during the late 1950's and early 1960's, especially when the swimming pool at Kennywood Park was closed. We always had a lot of fun. I remember the pool being surrounded by big shade trees. We parked in a gravel pit of a parking lot and lugged the cooler to the picnic tables and pool.
im not really sure i went there from 1964-1966 kindergarten - 2nd grade...it's no longer there...though...what used to be crafton hs is now the crafton elementary....and now the hs is carlyington hs...it is a small park...i have posted pictures of what it looks like now.
Remember this well, Caddy corner was Dr. Blick's office and the A&P across the street. I think there was a 5&10 cent store there also, Then off to the left the Orpheum, Isaly's and the other movie theater.
My sister was just there last weekend, she called me from the High Water mark...saying she wished i was there, but i live in CA, I was born in Pittsburgh...PA is a gorgeous state, friendly people...I feel honored to have been born in PA. Gettysburg is an awesome place...beautiful and serene.
