fencer_js@yahoo.com's conversations

Actually this is the base for the catapult for the launching of the De Havilland Queen Bee pilotless target aircraft.

This pub featured in the BBC series The Changes, broadcast in 1975 (filmed in 1973).

I used to drink in this Inn prior to going to Germany in June 65. I was thinking about this place while just listning to a Radio Ham from South Africa. I use to work to a Ham from this village who was called Jack Smith. He lived in Natal, South Africa and was Ex Brit Army. He had been out in S. Africa in WWII along with a chap who was stood along side of me as we were in conversation. Jack London who was at my side asked if I could ask Jack in S. Africa what his surname was. Unknown to him, I had the Transmitter in V.O.X mode and he had just sent out the question as he leaned closer and ask me. Jack Smith came back and said is surname to Jack London. They Had not seen or spoken to each other since the end of hostilaties in 1945 and yet in 1968 reccognised each others voice over the radio circuit. This ended up by Jack London taking his wife on holiday from Malaysia to meet Jack and his wife in S. Africa and the rekindeling of an old frendship because I had said to Jack Smith previuosly that it was such a coincidence that he was originaly from Longparish and that was where I had gone for a pint with my mates fom Barton Stacey camp.

It's all boarded up now.

Not a C-54, but a conversion of a C-54, the Carvair. Ex EI-AMR of Aer Lingus, later CF-EPV of Eastern Provincial Airways. C/N 8/10448.
