The Parish Church of St Thomas & St Luke (Top Church). The presentbuilding dates from 1826, replacing a much decayed mediaeval church of which only the small crypt remains. Some years ago during building renovation it was discovered the builders had used cast iron in the roof but such was the caution at the time the cast iron struts were duplicated with timber.
I worked in the biggest Chinese take-away in the world when it opened many years ago. First time we had rain the roof leaked - Sandwell Council had reputedly spent all of the "float" on this monstrosity. Not long after it opened someone put a bottle of washing-up liquid in the fountain to quite good effect!
beautiful photo
please note that dudley is a major town and a large borough whereas tipton is a small town in the borough of sandwell so the title should be
DUDLEY CASTLE (dudley town centre) not (near tipton)

This is a statue of William Ward, the first Earl of Dudley.
A Painted tarpaulin was put on the facade, whilst restoration work was being undertaken.
