The rebuild was not because of lightning. It was a renovation that was long time coming. The steeple was so old it became a danger to the public, or so they found out after the start of the renovation. During the renovation a freak storm brought down the scafolding which may be where the misleading "rebuild after struck by lightning" title came from. At no time did it get struck by lightning. Most likely wind shear coused the colapse of the scafolding.

I grew up in Portsmouth, I was married in that church. It is great to see it rebuilt. SOB
