Jose (Joseph) Artigas as any person, for sure had positives and negatives, but in Uruguay and neighboring provinces of Argentina he is remembered for his many virtues. he was a respected and popular rancher that had attended high school in the city. He joined later the Rangers, earning a reputation for strength and righteousness. He joined the revolutionary band fighting for freedom from the Spanish Empire and he strongly advocated Federalism, so all parts of the vast former Spanish Empire Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata -comprising current Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia and parts of southern Brazil- could be united in a new country but free from the grip of a too powerfull central authority. That gave him wide support in the provinces but also enemies in the central power. His influence grew, he promoted education for the majority of illiterate people, the distribution of vasts tracts of low usage lands to landless people to promote agriculture. he was offered privileges but never gave in to abandon his beliefs, prefering to live modestly. Current identity of the uruguayans is heavily influenced by his values, prefering community thinking, treating all people as equals, liking modesty over excesive show offs. Some of his phrases "With Freedom I don't Offend nor Fear" and "Be all uruguayans as illustrated (meaning educated) as they are Brave"
I modified the title from Kalhat to Kalhat/Fih so the whole area where the 2 beautifull and dear villages is presented as a whole. The area and surrounding landscape is beautifull!

Me asombro este Hotel con su fronton de primera categoria al fondo, su sala con biblioteca de temas vascos, los colores de la ikurriña en su manteleria, etc. Por mas que no haya recibido 1$ de inversion en renovacion en las ultimas decadas, o quizas gracias a eso, es una joyita! Parte de mi ascendencia es de Isturitze en Nafarroa Beherea asi que lo disfrute especialmente.
