The second crossing is thus well past my last crossing. Most were by rail anyway and the tunnel must be the way that crossed in my time too.

'Industrial cheese' is certainly the most common this side of the Atlantic. Some is stuff I am not sure could legally be called 'cheese' in Europe! There are also many really fine small and even artesinal cheeses available. Some of our supermarkets have good selections but there is rarely a place that can compare with the cheese shops on the Continent. Unfortunately I get a taste of some and they stick so that I am constantly 'saudades' for the things. That Cheddar was one and recently there was this goat cheese only found in Catalonia that looks like a smooth, lumpy gray stone in its covering and tastes wonderful. I am a 'stinky' cheese nut and love Stilton above most.
