Aren't these old barges pretty? So much work went into maintaining the finish, inside and out.
I remember talking to an old bargeman in Dudley many years ago, and he said that they would paint things like buckets and stools just to while away the time as they made their way along the canals.

Fantastic moody shot. Once a great viaduct traversed this view where the London & North Western Railway line went. At the bottom is the Old Dukinfield Railway station on the Great Central Railway line. Opened 1864 - Closed 1959

Site of the old Junction Mills. Now modern condominiums. For some daft reason they keep the old chimney.
