mountain bike madman's conversations

It is a beautiful little mountain range up there. I stopped in and talked to a few of the firelads up at the HQ, and one of them said that it is the starting point for all Los Angeles county firefighting when they use helicopters. And, an helicopter landed right while I was there; great timing. And the view is amazing. L.A. on one side and Santa Clarita on the other. Way cool. You just take Little Tujunga Canyon road from either the 210 side or on the I-5 side, and the whole drive is only like 40 miles. Well worth it just for the views.

(nice spelling by the way, Fixer2012 - missel bace?)

Nice panoramic photo. ~+~+~+~ LIKE! / GEFÄLLT MIR! ~+~+~+~+~ Jürgen grüßt Dich aus Frankfurt am Main / Jürgen says hello from Frankfurt-upon-Main (Germany)

I'm always asked, "Can you sail through here?"

Certainly not in a sailboat and only in a kayak when it's not low tide. Lots of pieces of shredded fiberglass attest to the reef that lies across the gap and the foolhardiness of attempting to transit here.

Thanks for the tip. I rode my bike up there today and was wondering about those signs. It was not as green up there this time of year but still had some great views.

These where for fire fighters, they're not used much any more but if they need water it is here. Some people treat it and drink it but I'd sooner drink from my toilet

Tongva Peak is the flat-ish area to the left in this photo. The high point in the center of this photo is locally known as "Verdugo Peak".

Really this would be better described as a photo of the Verdugo Mountains from Mt Lukens

I have that same picture!

I haven't been back over there but I do want to take a trip. I'll let you know if I find them.

Lovely Winter view of the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve, previously known as 'the Ahmanson Ranch'. A good hiking and mountain biking Park.

Yes, the "roof" of the sign is burnt, but not by vandals...by a raging brush fire that swept through from north to south.
