Disappointment from the hotel staff!!!
Ever since we arrived in the hotel, something was not looking right. We came from the airport very thirsty and I requested a water from the receptionist – he told me that very near to the reception area there is a store where I can buy water – not a bad welcome(could not find the store…).
I spend few hours in the swimming pool area and every time I approached the bar for a juice or soda it looked like he make a lot of efforts to deliver this drink to me. I do not speak Spanish, and anyone approaching him in Spanish was getting his/her drink before me, and I was waiting and waiting and waiting. Not a big deal, I am a patient person and I can wait. I was expecting smile, politeness which I could not see in any of the bar-men faces.
The next day, my 6 year old boy asked for some Gatorade and I went to the local Wal-Mart to buy few bottles. When I came back in the hotel caring few Wal-Mart plastic bags (I invested about $80 in the local Mexican economy) with Coca-Cola and Gatorade the bell boy stopped me at the door and told me that I have go with him to see the Hotel Manager. The Hotel Manager explained that I am not allowed to bring in the hotel soft drinks – this was the hotel policy.
Hello – I am not allowed to buy my own soda – which century we are living in, on which continent this hotel is located? Why they did not check my suitcases for coca-cola imported from US?
My statement to the Hotel Manager was that he has to change his hotel policy not to embarrass his guests that have purchased Coca Cola and Gatorade from a local store.
Finally he “allowed” the soft drinks on his hotel territory, but this was very unpleasant experience I do not want to wish to anyone.
I would recommend - More smile from the hotel staff on check in and checkout. A change in the hotel policy to “allow” guests to buy and bring Coca Cola and Gatorade in the hotel.
