My mom used to take me here when I was a little kid. I hadn't seen these slides in over ten years, until today. I feel like crying. I need to revisit this park with my kids.
I don't know when they closed the boat but when I went to China in the 1980s you could walk (and scamper) all over its lower level. Alas, the boat (built with funds originally intented to be used for China's navy) could not take the pounding feet of so many tourists. Maybe if we all wore socks???
A part of the Old Summer Palace (actually comprised of many different gardens but collectively referred to as Yuan Ming Yuan) in Beijing. The gardens were plundered in 1860 and then again in 1900 by Western powers. These massive marble ruins, ironically, are all that is left of the "Western-style" palaces designed by Jesuit artist Giuseppe Castglione in the 18th Century for the amusement of the Chinese emperor, Qianlong.
