Looking east from N13. Prior to the June 6, 1944 invasion of Normandy, Erwin Rommel ordered the opening of these gates, among others, during the English channel high tide and closed the gates during low tide. This flooded the river valleys and created a water hazard for the paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st Airborne.

Marmion Farm, looking north. This farm, after the 101st captured the German garrison there, was used as a regrouping spot for many miss-dropped 501st, 502nd and 506th Airborne troops during the invasion of Normandy on 6 June 1944.
The spot was known as “Stopka Strongpoint” under the command of Maj. John Stopka of the 502nd.

This building served as a temporary aid station to the troops of the 101st Airborne during the assault on Carentan on 12 June 1944. It was here that Lt. Winters and Pvt. Blyth of Easy Company received aid for their wounds.
