The Nangus Hall is across the road from what was a great-uncle's general store. and I can remember going there in the early 1950s as a teenager, with cousins Kevin and Richard Smith to a rock and roll dance. They were very kind to me. Very happy and clear memories of Nangus.

This lovely composition and framing. Tells a real story of the geography, and is very esthetically pleasing.

Ralf_G - glad you liked it. In fact, I shot some video there, including a narration piece to camera. It describes how I shot this image: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jimgeverett/2902377079/

One of these days I will edit and upload my video.

ArdenZ - Thanks. It is a composite of several images, carefully enhanced and balanced to bring out the shadows, the sky, and retain the line of yellow glow atop the cottonwoods. Quite a lot of work went into it.

In terms of visiting Canyon de Chelly, each time of year is a different experience. This was in fall. In winter, there is often several feet of snow on the canyon rim. Sometimes late winter there are floods along the canyon floor that make it impassable. In summer it is dry and hot. Choose your time wisely.

This location was one of the opening scenes in the '70s movie, Koyaanisqatsi. I was so struck by it, that I promised myself that one day I would locate and visit it. And in 2008, I did just that, around 35 years later. The film is still magic and relevant.
