This building is from Cairo's oil & gas boomtown days. It's about all that remains in this town.
This is Tunnel #12 on the North Bend Rail Trail State Park
Thanks! This bridge is in the heart of town & was built after a tunnel was built. At the time, 4 different lines converged here. The line on this side of the tracks wanted a more direct connection to the route on the other side of the tracks, so they wouldn't have to use any of Southern Railways tracks. They built a tunnel under Southern's tracks and this bridge was built over the tracks leading to the tunnel, as they still wanted to maintain a connection to Southern. After several mergers, it was decided that this connection was no longer needed.
Sadly, I heard that this old train station burnt down in 2011. Very few old P&N stations left. They also recently tore down the one in Piedmont in the past year or two. Only ones left are in Anderson, Greer, Donalds & Hodges.
When I was a kid in the 70s, my parents had these exact same decorative plywood cut-outs. We also had two crossed candy canes that were on each side of the "family".
Very interesting. YSL. Best wishes, Dave.
And I almost forgot, I love bridges!
This is a gorgeous courthouse!
