I believe this courthouse was dedicated in 1950.
Built in 1965 as an exact recreation of the original bell tower that was located on the original campus in downtown Greenville.
The Via College of Osteopathic Medicine has constructed a campus on the former site of Spartan Mills & preserved the smokestack in recognition of the role the textile industry played in the history of Spartanburg.
Built in 1981, it is the home of the Furman University Purple Paladin football team.
Built in 1987, this courthouse has undergone a facelift and is unrecognizable compared to pictures that I have seen of the original. I do not know when, but the columns & capitol were added sometime after the original construction. A good photo of the original is located here: http://georgiainfo.galileo.usg.edu/courthouses/banksCH.htm
Built in 2004 to replace the very small courthouse located in Jefferson. This is a very fast growing county & a new courthouse was definitely needed. I applaud their attempt to create a grand edifice in an effort to recreate the grand old courthouses of the 1800s & early 1990s.
Great picture. I am an amateur fan of courthouse architecture, specifically pre WWII courthouses. Being that I'm from West Virginia, I have seen & admired this courthouse many times.
Excellent shot! LIKE!
