These birds are not "γύπες" (vultures), they are either eagles or σκάρες (skares), a local name for a kind of bird that resembles much to eagle.
Vultures are much larger, and if you can see them flying they fly in groups and they are circling above a certain spot, and this is because on this spot an animal has died, or is about to die.
These birds here are hunting for livestock.

With this (and the photo), one can understand how clear the air is in December (photo was shot 20-25 Dec). What you can see o the photo is 45 km away!
