This is where the Boulder opal is--well,,, It was.
this is an old open-cut mine that seems to have had all the gems taken out.
It is very hard,work under very harsh conditions----but all the work is worthwhile as boulder opal is the most beautiful gemstone in the world!!! (perhaps a touch of Opal Fever ?)
Just approaching the Mesa's of the Boulder opal country---these flat-top hills have a layer of hard rock at the top,thus erosion leaves them like this with sometimes large rocks tumbling from the top and rolling to the base of the hills.
There is Opals in them hills !!!! ( somewhere...)
