Approx 3 miles east of Bath on the Kennet & Avon canal, in the background can be seen the entrance to the Somersetshire Coal Canal of which 400m has been restored. On the right remains a cast iron crane used to load and unload narrow boats until the First World war.

Kennet & Avon canal re-opened during the late 70's after many years of neglect. When built was the main route from Bristol to London for barge traffic, one of the most attractive of the English waterways.
