That is a lime kiln, used to heat limestone, creating the lime used in mortar and for agricultural use.

Rock was quarried here for the nearby causeway. This hill is taller than it appears here, perhaps 60' tall. A path goes up the right side to views of Caterpillar Hill, Eggemoggin reach, the bridge and causeway .

Round Barn campsite is on the cove just right of center. That tiny island actually has a campsite on it. Users wade (thigh to waist deep) or paddle over.
