I never met the man, but I first climbed the mountain after reading a newspaper story about how he climbed it almost daily and how much it meant to him. I've since gotten to know his son David.
Yes, I chose to use the popular though technically incorrect usage because if I mention Peaked Mountain no one knows what I'm talking about. Sometimes if something wrong is used enough it becomes accepted. I value the proper use of language and names, but sometimes you need to choose your battles.
