Army days, 1973-74 at GS Radar Sites 4 and 7 on the Korean DMZ

26charlie's conversations

Was here in '74 - '75. Spent two weeks training at K/D on Kangwa do and the night before going to Det "L" they took me down to the village to experience a makgeolli house... Arrived at Det "L" via Huey and ran to side of chopper pad to puke my guts out. Joe Shin forced me to eat 6 fried eggs saying it would make me feel better. We turned out to be great friends in the time I was there.

The jagged ridge in the background - wasn't that called "Alligator Jaws"?

A fellow soldier and I were headed up a steep portion of this road in a 5/4 (ASA-K HQ-19) loaded with 5 drums of gasoline when the left front wheel broke off. We careened backwards into the side of the mountain stopping the truck but ejecting all five barrels of fuel.

Was stationed at the ASA Detachment "L" here in 1974-75. Later transferred to Detachment "M". Curious if the photo taker knew Joe Shin, the cook at Det L?

No the correct name is Libby Bridge. It was named in honor of SGT George D. Libby who was KIA during the Korean War. Libby was a Medal of Honor recipient. The bridge was built by the 84th Engineer Battalion. See this URL for the whole story.... http://www.publications.usace.army.mil/Portals/76/Publications/EngineerPamphlets/EP_870-1-32.pdf

That is partially true, but there are multiple problems with communism too.
