This tree is a local favorite! I am blessed to view this daily! I heard there is a story about the boulder there?

I know historical documents aren't always accurate, but Dead Pond is typically shown on early documents nearly twice the size of that which it now is. My guess is, if the current hand dug outlet (the ditch below the wooden bridge) was filled in to its original elevation, the pond would grow significantly. You can picture it if you scan the banks while hiking the pond's perimeter.
