This is the stunning view from Eagles Nest in the Wye Valley. I approached this spot by climbing the 365 steps near St Arvans. From here I walked along the Wye Valley Way to Tintern Abbey. From here there are amazing views towards Chepstow, the two Severn Bridges and the Cotswold hills. This picture was taken in June 2012 after very heavy rain.
Tintern Abbey is a magical place on the banks of the River Wye near Chepstow. The abbey was founded by the Cistercians in 1131. Nearby is the Angidy Valley where evidence can be found that industrialisation activity began in 1566 at Abbey Tintern Furnace and at Lower Iron Works. Within walking distance of the Abbey is the Abbey Woolen Mill and the Devils Pulpit with spectacular views over the Wye Valley.
Between 1882 and 1886 the ss Great Britain carried Welsh coal from Penarth and Liverpool to San Francisco. On the return trips, her cargoes were wheat from the USA prairies and South American sea bird quano, used as a fertilizer in European gardens.
I visited the Keep in Cardiff Castle on Saturday 23 July 2011 with Iva Safrova from Chomutov, Czech Republic. A special day with stunning views across the City of Cardiff.
A similar picture to this featured on the front page of the Penarth Times - 01/07/2011. The article said that Waverley Excursions need to raise £350,000 to ensure the Paddle steamer Waverley sails around the coastlines of Britain in 2012.
