I too took exception to the memorial until someone reminded me that maybe it's time we get a taste of our own medicine. For example, the Sioux were basically cheated and robbed, like most other Native Americans, of their lands. Yet there are memorials like the battlefield memorial at Little Big Horn-put there by the aggressors. The Sioux can do nothing about the memorial but it grates on some of them. Why not-we've always been the 'good guys' so only OUR concerns are important. I'm being facetious of course. The point is, a peace memorial was put up by two former enemies and the memorial is one small sign that some progress has been made in our search for the elusive lasting peace.
