I was there in 1985 and have seen them too. Then they collect the fish, and pray. Fascinating picture. You thought you lived hundreds of years back in the biblical times. We had good times in Tharthar on Fridays and Thursday sleep overs! Thanks for the memories.

'Near by (Seleuceia) is a township, called Ctesiphon, a large township. The kings of the Parthians made it their winter quarters sparing the Seleuceians the encamping amongst them of the Scythian race and army. Because of the Partian power it is a city, not a township; its size is such that it accepts a large number of people; and it is built by themselves; and it has been provided by the Parthians with wares for sale and arts acceptable to them. The kings are used to spend their winters here because of the good quality of the air, but the summertime in Ecbatana and Hyrcania because for the prevalence of the old glory.' From Strabo's Geography. Book 16:1(16).

My grandfather's brother, Private Edward Hurst 200311, of the 1st/4th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment, was taken prisoner at the siege of Kut and died as a POW on January 30th 1917. He is buried in this cemetery. Thank you for posting this picture. It means a lot. I will not comment further on the futility of war.
