Two years ago, the township celebrated the completion of exterior renovations to the historic Henry Doremus House, a centerpiece of Montville’s Dutch Colonial heritage.
George Washington spent the night June 25th-26th in 1780 after the Battle of Springfield. His stay is documented in his expense account for that year. Continental and French troops camped in the field near the house on their way to meet and defeat Gen. Cornwallis at Yorktown.
