This curious clock-tower, in the middle of the village of Marseillette, was built as a semaphore station in the early 19th century. The semaphore system was designed by Claude Chappe and called telegraph in its days (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claude_Chappe). It was put out of service by the introduction of the electric telegraph around 1850.
