The Rugglestone Inn, Widecombe in the Moor. This is a hidden gem. Very friendly pub, with superb food and local cask ales drawn straight from the barrel.

This is not a true obelisk, for though in the form of one, it is constucted of a number of quite small stones. It formerly bore the following insciption, the verse being from Pope's "Essay on Man, Epistle IV:---------"Erected in 1764 in memory of His Grace William Cavendish, Duke of Devonshire.------ There in the Rich-- The Honour'd Fam'd and Great--- See the false scale--- Of Happiness Compleat"----- The occupier of the farm on which this memorial stands had so much trouble from persons trespassing to read the inscription that he erased it.-- This Duke, as a young man, read with one of the incumbents of Boughton, and for this reason the monument wasd erected.

A most beautiful canal view Geoff. Shows the weather this winter off to a treat - b..... cold! Someone told me this morning that it'll be like this until late on in April.
