Honestly I've been surprised when we recognized that there is a botanical garden in the courtyard of the castle full of tropical plant species fishes, turtles etc. Of course the Wesselényi family may wouldn't use their garden that way before, but I've been to other castles just a couple of hard winters away to collapse down (eg. Posmus, or Pribilesti), or really used as stables, home of mentally handicapped people, bought by some rich people and rebuilt in a very different way etc. These were very sad to me, so I regard those quite right, when a castle gets another function as a school for children or sylviculture (like in Jucu de Sus or Gurghiu). Of course it's not the best way to preserve these bulidings but there are no noblemen to live in them anymore, and if this is the best solution not to let them getting ruined, let it be. And on the other hand not only Romania banished their noblemen and took no care of the abandoned castles in the Eastern part of Europe.
Well it's a quite nice place to go when you are in Croatia and you might not be using your language there or think of something bad when you are there...:D
