Still very run down. I always thought that turning towns like Pingyao (where I am now) or Lijiang into a tourist attraction destroys the charm. But comparing with towns in Yuxian, I would rather for them to be commercialized and to survive, than in the original stage and run down. I guess it is the less of two evils. Maybe until Chinese tourists become sophisticated enough can we expect towns reserved beautifully like those in Europe.
