WOW thats an amazing effort. We recently used climbing gear to abseil half way down the third waterfall "London Bridge" and standing on the bridge looking down it would take a huge effort to come in from the bottom. Plan is to go back in the summer and finish the trip down and hopefully walk out.
Fantastic. It's great to see these pre-digital photos geolocated in Google Earth / Maps. I've walked along remains of the airstrip, it's amazing to see a pic of it being used.
I believe there use to be a mini-township nearby, built during the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme.
