Sept 13, 2007. Cat 1 hurricane Humberto made landfall about four hours before this. Pusehd some tidewaters up into the lake - the yacht club has to wade thru water to check their boats - the docks were under water for a few hours.

Whats left of a gas station in Cameron. Things are ever so slowly rebuilding and reopening after this disaster.

Cant quite see, but there is an overturned car still in the waterway. You can still see debris mixed in with the soil that was dredged to redo the waterway follwoing the highway in Holly Beach. Hard to beleive this is almost two years later.

Cant take credit for this. Nephew Paul Smith, now deceaced, employee of Louisian Wildlife and Fisheries snapped this in Cameron after Rita blew through. Paul was part of rescue/recovery after both Rita and Katrina, even though the family farm had damage and significant flooding.

I cannot take credit for this photo...my deceased nephew, Paul Smith was able to take this photo of what was left of Holly Beach, after Hurricane Rita blew thru. its argued that this was "ground zero" and the only thing standing was the water tower. Paul was employed by Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries, and part of rescue/ recovery efforts after Katrina and Rita.
