I was stationed at Ft. Ord in 1984-85. Stidwell Hall wasn't used much at that time. They still had a lounge with video games, pinball machines, ping pong tables, pool tables, and vending machines with sodas & snacks. The terrace was closed off because it was beginning to fall off the cliff.

Even then it was still an awesome building!

Marineland of the Pacific made a whale of a mistake when they hung up on Ted Griffin in December 1965. Ted wanted to sell 'Shamu' to them for $20,000. Marineland's general manager said, "Why should we pay that much for a whale just because it's black and white?" So Sea World bought her. In 1967 Sea World bought two more and made Griffin promise he wouldn't sell orcas to any other aquarium or park in California. That's why Marineland had to go all the way up to Port Hardy to buy Orky.
