Fort Rinella was built in Malta in the late nineteenth century by the British military at a time when the growing naval power of nearby Italy posed a threat to British commerce and maritime traffic in the Mediterranean. The last remaining 100 ton gun is installed in this purpose built fort.
The fort is now a live museum restored by the Malta Heritage Trust - the Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna - and is used to re-enact the life of Victorian Soldiers.
