This historic view of St Mary's Cathedral Limerick was taken from Bridge Street. The Cathedral was founded in 1168 and is the oldest building in Limerick City. It is also still used for its orignal purpose today.
This view was taken from the West door of St Mary's Cathedral Limerick. The nearest building is Limerick City Court house. This was built in the late 18th Century and it has been refurbished in the late 1990's. In the distance along the Shannon river the tower of the 14 story Clarion hotel can be seen
This is a view of the West door of St Mary's Cathedral Limerick. Tradition has it that this was the doorway to Donal Mor O'Brien's Palace. Who donated the site for the building of the cathedral in the 1160's
This sign is just inside the gates of the Cathedral. In the top left corner is the seal of the Bishop of Limerick. In the right top corner the seal of the Dean of St Mary's is displayed. Both seals are of ancient origin and are the symbols of office of both the Bishop of Limerick and Dean of St Mary's Cathedral.
