Yes indeed, stay away from washes if you have a 2WD.
You can purchase the TRED recovery boards for a "just in case" moment, better to have them than not. Also, please don't travel alone out in the middle of nowhere!
I gathered from our hike leader that the trail was abandoned b/c of some landslides making the terrain too treacherous, something to that effect. I'd love to see that waterfall, though - am eager to get back there to explore some more - also want to hike up from the valley floor to check out as much of Bear Rock Falls as possible from below. Would make for a fun and interesting day.
This is a favorite childhood haunt! There's a foundation on the upper plateau and the ruins of industrial machinery in the lower area. What was it? I've heard stories about it being some kind of factory.

I don't but will tell you 54 and 52 are much better sites, 53 was a last resort for us. 53 does have room for a larger group though.
