This panorama taken from the west side of Brochstein Pavillion encompasses (left to right): Herring Hall, Baker Institute, Jamail Plaza and fountain, Alice Pratt Brown Hall, McNair Hall, Rice Memorial Center and Rice Memorial Chapel. Shown also is a bronze sculpture created by James Surls; Again The Tree, Knot, Flower and Me.

To the west of Brochstein Pavillion, tables and chairs have been set up for the students to use; however, this photo was taken a day before Freshman were to arrive, so what we see is a squirrel taking a break where an Owl will soon be. The heat was intense, but the squirrel was enjoying the shade. You can zoom in to see him or her smiling :)

What you first do when you start to feed the seagulls is to throw a bunch of crackers in the water, they all go in to grab it and take a bath while having a quick feast. FWIW: we all escaped untouched and really had a good time :)

An extraordinary day in Galveston, 1/17/10

Nice place, I think I'm going to vote it.

From Dave McGary's website I see that this statue depicts a nineteenth century Miniconjou Chief who fought alongside Crazy Horse at the Battle of Little Big Horn.

Of all the beautiful buildings on Rice University campus, this, to my eye, ranks close to the top.

In the right background, we see one of the granite slabs in the Engineering Quad.
