Yes, it keeps my friend's boat off the water when he is not using it. Operates manually by turning the large wheel. It (and the dock) comes ON/OFF the water in the Spring/Fall. The water is VERY cold on both occasions!

Came from Hannover, had to wait an hour for the returning train. Train platform felt like the shots from inside of "shawshank" prison.
