In 1961 I was the 'Gardener' here. No wire fence then, or heli-pad. Just rocks and pebbles. My job consisted of arranging the rocks and pebbles into terraces, to make them look pretty! Of course frequently, the sea washed everything away and I had to start again. Well, at that time there were worse jobs in the RN! Thanks for the memories JW

Dude, it helps to know what you're talking about before you start chucking crap. This is the BRITISH installation, not USAF. The trailers look pretty new. When I was there, this was a tent city. I remember the Brits used to bathe outside, in the blowing sand. No AC to their tents (which were dark green) -- pretty uncomfortable surroundings in 2001/2002.

Hi Jacq,
As you can see the graveyard is at Waddington in Lincolnshire. There are lots of RAF graves in this graveyard as well but these generally bear the crest of the Royal Air Force and were generally grouped together to the left of where I took this photo.
I have a slightly higher resolution copy of this picture - I can send you this if you like. The grave does indeed read "George Briggs" and "Harriet". At the bottom, I can also make out "Robert" but the rest of his name is obscured. How were you related to these individuals?

Good stuff! I've got fond memories of that evening's flying. I hope 2009 is a bit better weather wise. Hopefully see you on the coast again soon!
