Grey Lodge Wildlife Refuge, a birdwatcher's paradise and a migratory bird's resting place. Along the Pacific Flyway, Grey Lodge is visited by a wide range of migratory birds as well as being home for many species of non-migratory birds including egrets and Great Blue Herons.

Migratory birds take a break on the shallow water that covers much of Grey Lodge Wildlife Refuge. This refuge is a popular birdwatching area along the Pacific Flyway on the west coast of the US. The mountains in the background are the Sutter Buttes, one of the smallest mountain ranges on Earth; for a traveler they are an unexpected spectacle in the middle of the big flat central valley of California.

The Netherlands is so very interesting and I am enjoying ALL your pictures, Carel. What type of fields are these? I assume they are agricultual but it is hard to tel what is growing in these fields. It is a stunning picture with all the contrails in the sky.

I took this photograph at the very top of the mountain. The bear was attched to the lookout as a tribute to someone that has died. I'm not sure if it was someone who just loved this place-it is spectacular-or someone who commited suicide here. Regardless, I can inderstand that Google Earth would not choose it as a geographical representation of this site. But is is fitting for me to have it here, whether people see it or not. Someone's life was lost and this is a tribute to them.

Indeed it was a very 'still' place THAT day Jim. It's so wonderful to be able to hike into areas where the general tourist does not go. It takes more energy than many folks are willing to use. Their loss, for sure!
