This station dates from the time the line was part of the L&NWR (London & North Western Railway)and it lies on the route into London Euston. Many of the railway company directors chose to live in this desirable suburb of Hatch End which may account for the imposing architecture for a small station. I recall commuting from this station to my work in London for many years starting in 1963. The station is now (2011) a sad shadow of its former glory having lost its main line platforms, its long distance train services, and its footbridge across all six tracks allowing the directors their own priviledged access to the station from the "other side of the tracks" where the most desirable houses were (and are) located!
