Tabar is not New Britain, - it is New Ireland as Google locates it, so its only the title that is wrong.
New Britain and New Ireland are two different Provinces in Papua New Guinea.
Certainly when I was growing up in Moresby, this island (twin islands) was known as Lolorua. Gemo is the bigger one to the north where the leper colony used to be.
I learned to swim in this pool. And I have had the pleasure of returning recently. It is now a magnificent location to go snorkelling and well worth a visit.
I am a teacher now in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. It is a big contrast especially when you come from a village surrounded by sea and here you are in the middle of the jungle. It is nice , it makes me part of this big country of Papua New Guinea. Thank. I really mean what I said earlier on in the beginning. I just love the ocean. Thank you heaps. Patrick.

Shipping in Rabaul Harbour was bombed on a daily basis by heavy B24, B17 and B25 bombers of the US Army Air Corps 90th Bomb Group.
This facility was found by members of B Company, Papua New Guinea Volunteer Rifles (PNGVR) in 1954.
